Dr. Grewal has over 25 years of experience in higher education; most recently in leadership roles with University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, a university created through the merger of three long-standing legacy institutions. Before this, he served as the Department Head of Entomology and Plant Pathology at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and in multiple faculty roles at The Ohio State University, including as the Founding Director of the Center for Urban Environment and Economic Development.

In addition to this work, Dr. Grewal has 10 years of biotechnology research and development experience. He is an award-winning scholar, a Fellow and past President of the Society of Nematologists, and an internationally recognized nematologist who is ranked in the top two percent of the world’s most-cited scientists. His educational background includes a BS in Agriculture and MS in Plant Pathology from Punjab Agricultural University, and a Ph.D. in Zoology from Imperial College London.
